Cartoonist T. Samuel was born on January 25, 1925, in Mayyanad, Kollam, as the son of Samuel Varghese and Sarasamma Samuel. Samuel, who developed an interest in painting at a very young age, was loved by everyone. He joined Ravi Varma Painting School run by Kalathu Iyer at Chinnakada, Kollam, where he learned the basics of painting.
He served in the Indian Army during the Second World War and wrote about his youth and his wartime experiences in his autobiography, *Never a Dull Moment*. He was honored with honorary membership by the Kerala Cartoon Academy. His wife was Mary. They had three children. Samuel passed away on November 2, 2012.
