E P Peter was born on 16th August 1950 as the youngest son of Erupatharil Pathrose and Sicily hailing from Keezhukunnu, Kottayam Kerala. A self made cartoonist, he grew up scribbling cartoons on the walls of his neighbouring convent. He went on to the Holy family school to complete his schooling and to the Baselius College Kottayam for his pre degree where he was the Arts club secretary from 1965-66. His art took shape in college magazines of Baselius College. His first professional work was published in 1975 in the Shankars’ weekly, Delhi with a social cartoon. His cartoons followed in Caravan and Womans’ era during those times. He received a gold medal in 1976 from the then chief minister of Tamilnadu, M G Ramachandran for a cartooning competition conducted by Indhayam Pesikirathu”, a tamil weekly.
With a dream of taking up cartooning as a career he joined the Dinathanthi tamil daily in Chennai in 1975 and worked there till 1977 where he joined Dinamalar Tamil daily. He is the staff cartoonist of Dinamalar Tamil daily till date, publishing 2 to 3 cartoons a day which includes a Editorial cartoon, a pocket cartoon and a cartoon for a satirical commentary, “Teekadai benchu” (Tea shop bench). He has 33 years of cartooning experience in Dinamalar. His cartoons had been published in almost all Malayalam periodicals.

He is the Vice Chairman of Kerala Cartoon Academy and the member of the Indian Institute of cartoonists. He was recently awarded the K S Pillai memorial freelance award for the year 2009. He lives in Chennai with his wife Leelamma Peter and sons Petlee and Petson peter.
